Dental Implants

Dental implants are helping people rediscover the pleasure of eating, speaking, laughing and enjoying life! They serve as the foundation for replacement teeth, which thanks to today’s advanced technology, look, feel and function like natural teeth. Not only do implants give someone who has lost their natural teeth the ability to eat like they could before, but through the preservation of natural facial contours, we are able to give them their confidence back.

Essentially tiny titanium posts, implants are placed into the jaw bone which is missing teeth. The bone bonds with the titanium and creates a strong base for artificial teeth. In addition to this, dental implants help preserve facial structure by preventing bone deterioration resulting from missing teeth.

Evaluation for Dental Implants

The first step before you go through an implant surgery is to undergo a dental/radiographic examination. We understand that each patient has unique concerns and they will be addressed by an experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeon during these consultation visits. Your questions and concerns are important to us and our team will work with you very closely to help make your procedure a success.

Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implants surgically placed metal anchors in the jaw bone, which act as tooth root substitutes. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which secure the artificial replacement teeth in position. For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two phases:

  • Implants are placed within your jaw bone, and this is followed by a bonding period of three to six months when they gradually bond with the jaw bone. It is recommended that, during this time, soft food diet is maintained, and if necessary, temporary dentures used. Your restorative dentist, at this stage, designs the final denture.
  • Next, the implants are uncovered and a small healing collar is attached. An impression is taken and then posts are connected to the implants. The replacement teeth are then made over the posts or attachments.

The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months and most patients do not experience any disruption in their daily life. We’d be happy to answer any question you may have about our dental implant services. Call us today!
